When I attended my first class 1985 I was at the age of 5. I remember taking classes in Tai Kwon Do in Zion, IL. At that time is was exactly what I needed, a way to practice the basics and learn something about myself along the way. Years went by and eventually I was introduced to Shotokan Karate with Sensei Charles L. Plaines Sr. in Waukegan, IL. Shotokan offered a different perspective on the competitive sport scene and had some mild history and traditon I was after. Several years went by and eventually landed in Menomonie WI, at the Healing Art Center with Soke Kent Bergstrom in 2001.
More recently I found that my heart belonged with the bujinkan and that I was training for the wrong reasons. I need to train for myself and work towards my own goals. This led me to Shidoshi Ethan Capers with whom I look to for teaching. Through this relationship we are proud to have our Bujinkan Des Moines Shibu
Few systems can claim to history beyond the last 100 years, you can simply verify that fact by asking about that arts lineage. Ko Ryu arts have a real lineage that can be verified and are documented. Some of the Bujinkan schools date back almost a 1000 years. History and Tradition have always been my pursuit in my training, and it is here in Des Moines, Iowa that I want to share those same experiences.
